The Controls Engineering Leader for our customer AFINITAS in Blaubeuren will be primarily responsible for leading a team of controls engineers, and overseeing all aspects of the electrical, control, software and automation system design and development projects and processes. In addition, the Controls Engineering Leader will lead the design and implementation of automated controls systems including electrical design, technical analysis, and/or resolution of engineering problems for automated production equipment for the concrete industry.

- Provide oversight, guidance and assistance to team members as required to meet organizational goals, throughout the design and development process.
- Drive innovation and growth of our products, through collaboration and leadership.
- Continuously improve team performance by understanding the team’s skillset and aspirations compared to the engineering organizational needs and create an action plan to close gaps.
- Foster an inclusive and positive working environment by monitoring team performance, providing timely feedback, constructive direction and ensuring team members’ success.
- Maintain, track and report on performance of the controls engineering team against all performance metrics.
- Making sure that all solutions are in line with equipment delivered from our American sites.
- Stay up to date on current industry trends, technology offerings and best practices.
- Identify new innovations and strategic opportunities to automate machine operations (IIOT, Robotics, Machine learning, AI) for ease of use, higher productivity, quality, reliability, and safety.
- Provide roadmap from conception up to development of automated solutions.
- Develop and implement engineering standards and tool sets, increasing engineering efficiency and quality.
- Ensure robust project documentation, change management and revision control.
- Drive continual improvement by identifying opportunities throughout the design, development and building process and provide plans for correction.
- Develop and track project program and engineering resource requirements including design, installation, and commissioning tasks. Work on team member loading and workload forecasting.
Abilities & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with some years of relevant controls experience
- Experience learning and integrating new technologies.
- Experience in an equipment manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with Electrical design CAD tools (all sites use Eplan).
- Experience overseeing PLC programming and testing. (all sites use TIA portal)
- Ability to collaborate effectively, partnering across multiple departments, with a capacity for listening and absorbing different points of view.
- Detail oriented.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and passion for connecting with others.
- Use judgement to make complex decisions to solve difficult and complex problems.
- In-depth knowledge of PLCs, electrical controls systems.
